WARSKYL TRAINING: Picking Handcuffs

I hope all Christian Warriors had a meaningful and joyous celebration of the incarnation and birth of their King. Now I have a little Nativity present for you -- by tradition, Christmas does not end until Epiphany.

Suppose you find yourself captured and cuffed by the bad guys: terrorists, kidnappers, rabid feminists, stark raving mad liberal hooligans, lunatic anti-gun lobbyists . . . . You get the idea.

Anyway, the bad guys slap the cuffs on you as they transport you to your doom. In this situation, wouldn't it be handy to know how to improvise a handcuff key out of a bobby pin, paper clip, piece of wire or even a twig?

That's the skill you'll learn in the video below. And always remember, cadets, only use this against the bad guys, never against legitimate LEO's who are enforcing the law in accordance with their oath to preserve, protect and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies.
My daughter Merrianna, who has an interest in archery, gave me the link to the video below. I found the archer's ability to fire arrows accurately in rapid succession impressive.

I'm not ready to throw out my firearms in favor of bows & arrows, but this leads me think that a bow has a lot more potential as a combat weapon than I had previously thought. If I had a bow and this guy's skills, I would not feel totally at a loss if separated from my firearms, or if I ran out of ammo.
According to an article in Bloomberg News, a new round of housing defaults may cause a secondary burst of the housing bubble and bring stormy weather to the economy.

New delinquencies on reworked mortgages held by bonds without government backing jumped in September, a sign that some of the fuel for housing’s recovery isn’t sustainable, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co. Preparedness makes good sense, whether you're thinking of Hurricane Sandy or looming economic hurricanes. A word to the wise is sufficient.

I talked to my barber recently, and he asked me if I've ever heard of turmeric. As a matter of fact, I've been taking a daily capsule of turmeric for some years now.

\Turmeric is a bright yellow spice used in curry. It contains a substance called curcumin which studies have shown to prevent or even treat cancer.

In addition to its cancer-fighting properties, turmeric acts as a natural but powerful anti-inflammatory agent. That's what my barber wanted to tell me about.

He said that within a day or two, taking turmeric cleared up the knee pain he has suffered since his knee surgery some time ago. He now can go up and down stairs with no problem.

Will turmeric help you with chronic inflammation? I'm no doctor, and I don't prescribe. I'm just making some info from my barber available to you.
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. (1Timothy 5:8)

Sandy left in its wake a swath of devastation and destruction. FEMA's response shows that it has learned nothing about disaster relief from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

That, of course, assumes that the main purpose for FEMA has something to do with disaster relief. If we go by their actions, we must conclude that they see their mission as using natural or man-made disasters to extend their control as completely as possible over as many people as possible.

Consider the fact that FEMA sold off its once-used emergency trailers as Sandy approached. Who needs trailers in wintry weather, when you can put cold, hungry people in tents? (CLICK HERE to see news source)

While those affected still pick up the pieces, what lessons should you take away from all this? I have listed some to think about:

Even after it became clear where Sandy would strike with historic force, the overwhelming majority of people did nothing to ready themselves. Within a couple of days, they had no food or water, and they could not keep warm. Don't be like them -- begin to prepare NOW.

New York could spare policemen to force evacuations, but not to protect evacuated neighborhoods from looters. Decide what you will do -- Abandon your house & belongings? Hide so you can stay and protect them?)

Authorities lured survivors out of their houses (and in at least one case, out of a heated shelter) with promises of warm hotel rooms with hot food and showers. Then they transported them to a compound, put them in tents and issued them ONE BLANKET each -- in freezing weather. (Remember the movie The Outlaw Josie Wales, where the Union army enticed rebel guerillas with promises of amnesty and food? The ploy still works, because people want to believe.

In the absence of law enforcement, gangs of looters raided stores and terrorized people who were still in their homes. People who live in two of the most viciously anti-gun states found themselves defenseless against the strong and the ruthless. In the absence of police, the volunteer group, Guardian Angels tried to step in to fill the gap. Don't be defenseless -- arm and train NOW.

The media showed many images of people demanding "help" in the form of handouts. They personify the entitlement mentality. Don't be like them. Take responsibility for yourself and your family, including safety, health, security and provisions. (See Scripture passage a beginning of this article.)

Some have suggested that FEMA's handling of the storm victims merely provided a practice run for herding citizens into concentration camps. They may have a point. (CLICK HERE)

Obama won another four years. Now what? Well, for one thing gun sales will spike. Again.

For another thing, between the election results and the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, we can expect soft-core preppers to get more serious about their prepping, and maybe even more will enter into the preparedness movement.

And, of course, evangelicaldom and evangelicaldumber have already begun the recriminations against believers who did not vote for their Republican idol. That's to be expected.

Last night I even saw a conservative Presbyterian seminary graduate calling for secession. But what should actully be first on the agenda of those who really want to turn America around?

I am confident the answer lies in the following scripture passage:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

I can hear the reply from some: "But, brother, we have humbled ourselves; we have prayed; we have sought God's face, but still He has not turned us back from the precipice."

Right you are. He has not answered. That's because you've left something out:

. . . and turn from their wicked ways . . . .

"What wicked ways? I voted for Romney." Precisely. That is a symptom of undealt-with wickedness close to the heart of evangelical churches in America.

Let me list some wicked practices of which the Church at large should repent:

A major violation of the First Commandment,"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3). I have sat in conservative, evangelical churches that served communion to men who had knelt down at a common altar to take a common oath with Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. I refer to members of the Masonic Lodge. God takes it very seriously when His people try to make a common spiritual bond with those who worship false gods. See Numbers 25.

A major violation of the Second Commandment, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments." (Exodus 20:4-6) Bowing to and serving any created entity amounts to idolatry. Every day, millions of professing evangelical Christians bow to the will of the state and send their children to godless indoctrination in the public school system. Many claim they cannot afford to give their children a Christian education . . . . That is, they can't if they want to maintain their present standard of living. Shame! We lived in rat-and-roach-infested apartments to put our youngsters in a Christian school. I fed my family out of a dumpster. We started home educating our children at a time when I could only find a part-time job for minimum wage. I accept no excuses here. Putting your lifestyle above God's command (Deuteronomy 6:4-7) is wicked idolatry.

A couple of major violations of the Third Commandment, "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." (Exodus 20:7) This involves keeping vows made before God. I have observed in more than one denomination a willingness to ordain men to the ministry who do not believe Scripture as long as they will affirm that denomination's pet doctrines. In my own church, as long as a man graduates from seminary and affirms TULIP, they will ordain him in spite of his rejection of the Genesis account of creation. I believe in TULIP; I believe TULIP expresses Biblical teaching. But a minister of God's Word needs an implicit loyalty to ALL of Scripture, and if he cannot get it right on the first page, he does not belong in the pulpit. It's not a matter of interpretation, it's a matter of unbelief which will, sooner or later, affect other doctrines, as well. Putting such men in the ministry is a wickedness of which many in the Church need to repent. You see another violation of this commandment when professing evangelicals run for political office. They tend to want to distance themselves -- just a little -- from their faith. They like to say that they "stand for Judaeo-Christian values" rather than confess that they will use their office to disciple this nation and teach it to obey whatever Christ has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). This violates the vows implicit in their baptism and participation in the Lord's Supper. It also puts getting elected ahead of following their Lord -- see 2nd Commandment, above. At this point, I will not even touch on the matter of whether a Christian can or should take the oath of office in good conscience.

There's a lot more, but maybe if we begin our repentance with these violations of the first three commandments, God will hear and have mercy.

If we, as the Church took seriously our obligation to turn from our wicked ways, we would not need to even think about choosing a "lesser of evils" for civil leadership. We could begin fulfilling the Great Commission and transform society and culture from the inside out, from the ground up.

But first . . . .

Okay, folks, I want to show you what's NOT on my Christmas list this year. It's called The Battle Mug. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most useless, overpriced gear on which a Christian Warrior might waste his money.

Here's the description:

Built to military specifications, Battle Mug features a M1913 rail interface system which allows the operator to mount a standard issue M4 carry handle, tactical light, laser device, holographic sight (we call them beer goggles) or even a bayonet for close quarters, high risk operations.

The basic mug is $159, but it will cost you another $25 if you want the handle. To me, this screams "macho wannabe with more cash than sense".

I mean, this is just what a guy out in the field would want to lug around to drink out of, right? Instead of an extra mag of ammo.

Of course you can fix your bayonet to it. Get real.

If you've got an extra $150+ burning a hole in your pocket, go to the local grocery store and buy another case of beans. Or maybe a trip to Dollar Tree to beef up your first aid supplies. Perhaps some ammo or new boots or a solar battery charger or . . . anything that will be of real use in an emergency.

Sorry for venting. If you've got all your prepping done, and you've got the wherewithal to plunk down cash for macho schlock like this, be my guest. But please don't buy me one. I will weep inwardly at what the cost of that foolishness could have bought that would actually do some good.

Grace & Peace, Christian Warriors. Today we celebrate Martin Luther's posting of his 95 theses on October 31st, 1517.

I recognize the serious issues surrounding the Reformation: salvation by grace alone through Christ alone by faith alone. The faithful sealed their loyalty to these truths with their blood.

Nevertheless, this day does call for celebration, and celebration has its lighter side.

If you have followed Bruce Lee for any length of time, then you know that he advised that you kick the nearest target to you with the closest weapon, probably your lead (forward) foot.

It makes sense, when you think about the principle of the shortest distance.... straight lines, etc. And you know that Bruce Lee emphasized directness and efficiency. So, a single, direct, shin kick would seem most appropriate, right. And he did recommend a front, knee kick, too.

On the other hand...

there are several examples of Bruce kicking low with the rear leg. Also, you'll see the Bruce Lee move imitators, like Jason Scott Lee, performing a similar kick with the rear leg. (I am thinking of his great fight scene in the prison in Time Cop 2.)

So, what gives?

Bruce Lee's Low Kick, Front or Rear?

Why would Bruce Lee go against his own philosophy?

Actually, he doesn't (didn't). He's true to his own principles. You simply have to see how he's using the kick, both in his movies and during his training.

I see two main ways of incorporating a low kick with the rear foot:

1) You aren't getting in with the front low kick. So, you repeat that kick several times, setting your opponent up for the timing of a progressive indirect attack. One of those forward kicks doesn't quite reach the target... instead, the rear foot land a kick on almost the same beat that the forward kick would have reached the target.

The key here is to keep the body consistent. You don't want to clue your opponent into the fact that anything has changed. In fact, he or she still has to be focused on the forward foot. The expectation of a front kick has to be strong, in order to surprise with an indirect attack.

2) You use the rear kick as the set up. You deliver a non-telegraphed, rear, low kick. You fire it off as fast as possible, but it's not fast enough. So, you start the rear kick once again, but a shorter forward kick surprises your opponent instead.

This is the reverse of number one, but with a difference. In the first case, there was a shortened front kick... and you place the first foot down just a bit forward of where it started, as the other foot kicks. But in this second one, think of it more as a replacement kick.

When Your Kick Doesn't Work

In each case, when the direct route wasn't working, an indirect one-and-a-half beat, double technique serves as a fake.

Does this make sense?

Can you see why Bruce Lee thought it was an effective combination, no matter which order the kicks were delivered?

It was the timing that was important.

I just finished watching the video of Machine Gun Preacher, which I found available for instant viewing on Netflix. It's based on the experiences of Sam Childers, an ex-con who came to Christ and caught of vision for helping the persecuted children of southern Sudan.

I must caution viewers that the movie contains foul language (mostly, but not entirely within the first 10 minutes or so), a sex scene (in a car, viewed from a distance so not really visible), and violence involving children. On the plus side, for adult Christian Warriors, the movie contains some fodder for serious thought.

You can see how God's grace healed transformed Sam and healed his family. You also see the vision he had for the beleaguered children of the Sudan.

As the movie proceeds, though, you see that his involvement in literal gun battles to protect, house and feed the orphans stresses him and his family relations in the same manner experienced by any combat veteran who served overseas.

The movie has good production values and good acting. It does not whitewash the seamier side of Childers' life in Pennsylvania nor the trauma of his mission to Africa. For these reasons, it's not the typical Christian film. But I think it's made to order for mature the Christian Warrior with a proper mindset.

If you're interested in the life and ministry of Sam Childers, but the movie doesn't sound like your cup of tea, you may be interested in the book he has written. I've not read it, but after seeing the movie, I think I'd like to.
As a Christian Warrior, I hope you believe in being prepared for threats of all kinds, including medical and first aid needs. Whether you're a prepper getting ready for tough times ahead or not, you may find the following home remedies useful.

I found them over at The Ready Store site.

Baking Soda
Entire books have been written about the benefits of baking soda. We’ve even written a whole article on what you can do with the stuff. It comes at no surprise that baking soda is a natural healer too!

Stings. You can use baking soda to soothe mosquito bites and other insect stings. Apply a little water and make a baking soda paste. Apply this to the itchy areas. The paste can also be used against poison ivy and chicken pox.

Sunburns. Add baking soda to warm water and apply to your skin. This will soften the water and make a soothing remedy.

Bladder infections. Bacteria thrives inside acidic environments inside your bladder. Make a cocktail of baking soda and water to down after dinner. This will soothe your bladder infection problems.

Ginger
Ginger is one of the most used kitchen cures. It’s closely related to other spices like turmeric and cardamom and has been used medicinally for over 5,000 years. Ginger is used to ease nausea, vomiting and other digestive problems.

Migraines. Danish researchers have found that taking a teaspoon of fresh or powdered ginger at the first sign of a migraine, may reduce symptoms by blocking prostaglandins – the chemical that causes inflamed blood vessels in the brain. Unlike aspirin, ginger blocks only prostaglandins that cause inflammation, the the beneficial ones such as ones that strengthen the stomach lining.

Menstrual cramps. The chemical compounds in ginger act as antispasmodics. They inhibit painful contractions not only in the digestive tract but also in the uterus.

Honey
Honey is great for healing because it lasts for so long. Stored in the right conditions, honey can have an indefinite storage life. It’s good for soothing allergies, coughs and ulcers. Check out other uses of honey here.

Ulcers. Honey may reduce ulcer symptoms and speed the healing time. Honey reduces inflammation, stimulates blood flow and enhances the growth of epithelial cells on the inside of the stomach. Honey also kills H. pylori – the bacteria responsible for most ulcers.

Cuts. The sweet goo is great for taking care of cuts or scrapes that could end up getting infected. Honey contains hydrogen peroxide and propolis – a compound that kills bacteria. Applying honey to cuts or scrapes locks out other contaminants and denies bacterial growth.

Lavender
If you’re out in the wild and spot a lavender plant, be sure to grab some. It will probably come in handy! Lavender is great for treating headaches, insect bites, ear infections and athlete’s foot.

Skin infection. Lavender is a great way to fight infections in cuts and scrapes. Soak a clean cloth in a lavender infusion and apply and compress to the wound.

Ear infection. The same chemical compounds that fight infection in scrapes and cuts, also help sooth swimmer’s ear.

Pain reliever. Lavender has some minor pain killing properties. It appears to reduce the transmission of nerve impulses that carry pain signals. Mix a few drops of the oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil (an oil derived from nuts or fruits of a plant) and rub it in. It’s also great for relieving itching.

Goldenseal
This herb can heal just as well as man-made medicines and drugs. In studies, goldenseal has proven just as effective against certain infections as prescriptions.

Infectious diarrhea. The berberine in goldenseal helps prevent diarrhea-causing organisms from clinging to the lining of the intestines. Fighting the spread of infection during a disaster is an important preparation.

Eye infections. Goldenseal is too bitter to enjoy as a tea or drink but you can strain the beverage, let it cool and use it as an eyewash to speed the healing of eye infections such as pinkeye. You’ll have to continue to apply goldenseal to your eyes to continue to fight the infection.

"Keep on the Firing Line" may be just the song you're looking for, if you want to combine devotional vigor with your time at the firing range.

This is one of those rousing songs in the Southern Gospel tradition. It was written by Howard Haney some time before 1927, and the only melody attribution I could find was "American melody".

Keep on the Firing Line (Midi) Right click on the link and then left click on "Open in new tab". My computer downloads a link to the file, so I have to go through the extra step of clicking where it says "Open" on the download menu. (I think it will become clear as you try it.)

Anyway, here are the words:

If you’re in the battle for the Lord and right,
Keep on the firing line;
If you win, my brother, surely you must fight,
Keep on the firing line;
There are many dangers that we all must face,
If we die still fighting it is no disgrace;
Cowards in the service will not find a place,
So keep on the firing line.

Refrain:
Oh, you must fight, be brave against all evil,
Never run, nor even lag behind;
If you would win for God and the right,
Just keep on the firing line.

God will only use the soldier He can trust,
Keep on the firing line;
If you’ll wear a crown then bear the cross you must,
Keep on the firing line.
Life is but to labor for the Master dear,
Help to banish evil and to spread good cheer;
Great you’ll be rewarded for your service here,
So keep on the firing line.

When we get to heaven, brother, we’ll be glad,
Keep on the firing line;
How we’ll praise the Savior for the call we had,
Keep on the firing line;
When we see the souls that we have helped to win,
Leading them to Jesus, from the paths of sin,
With a shout of welcome, we will all march in,
So keep on the firing line.

Of course quizzes like this reflect the subjective opinions of the test maker. Also, in taking it I found myself somewhere between the second- best and best scores, so I estimated where that put me. That introduces my own subjectivity into the mix.

Anyway, I scored 1060 points. How well will you do?
My barber is a very inspirational guy. I received the following email from him:

So, I go to my doctor's office today . . .

The receptionist asked for my insurance card. Reaching into my wallet,I handed her the card. "Sir,this is a CCW permit." (the ones in this state are the same size, and color as my HMO card.) I was embarrassed, and apologized. When I was done with the appointment,I apologized again, and the receptionist told me, "My whole family carries; your permit was not a shock."

That kinda' made my day. I really need to start wearing my reading glasses more . . .

Laura heard this song on the radio this morning, and with a little searching I found it. Ron Hamilton wrote and composed "I Shall See the King", and Majesty Music published it.

Majesty Music is an appropriate name, for this particular performance of the song projects some of the majesty of the King of Kings. The link below takes you to only a minute-and-a-half sample, but it will give you a good idea of what it sounds like. Great song.
Dear Pointy-Headed Martinets:

I just turned off the NPR program "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me", a show that quizzes people on news from the previous week. I quit listening after the third time I heard the name of my Lord Jesus Christ used in a profane manner.

Based on profiles released by DHS, the FBI and the DoD, I know my unwillingness to listen to government funded denigration of Christianity marks me as a domestic terrorist. Okay, if that's how you see me, I guess I'll have to live with it.

Since I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy, though, I have some questions. I noticed that you gummint types armed the al Qaeda faction in Libya that destabilized their country and murdered U.S. diplomats.

Would it be possible for you to send me -- as one whom you consider a terrorist -- a case of AK-47's and several thousand rounds of ammo? Full auto would be nice, but that would require more ammo. This would be a lot of fun for me and some guys I know to shoot at the range.

Now, if part of the deal is that I have to agree to kill U.S. personnel, I couldn't do that. My religious devotion -- the same devotion that marks me as a terrorist -- does not allow me to kill other human beings, except in self defense.

I hope my unwillingness to commit murder does not disqualify me from receiving the weapons, because I love to go plinking. I might be able to participate in a riot, though, as long as I don't have to hurt anyone. Does that count?

Also, as one whom you identify as a terrorist, I wonder if I'm eligible for a portion of the money you are paying to terrorists in Egypt as a bribe not to kill Americans. This seems like a natural for me, since I don't want to kill anyone, anyway.

I realize that being a domestic terrorist may prove a roadblock to my receiving this kind of aid. But I am willing to relocate to a some nasty, unamerican foreign place, like Massachusetts or Chicago, if that will qualify me for the arms and money..

Sincerely,

Gravelbelly

P.S. As long as I'm asking, could you throw in a few rocket launchers? That would really go over big with the guys down at the range

I recently sent my barber a link to a site that sells a lot of used, imported firearms. Here's what I wrote:

This outfit reminds me of some of the deals we used to see in Shotgun News (remember "quality time"?) when we were at TBH.

As you paged through Shotgun News, you would find the tips of your fingers turning black from the printer's ink, My barber always referred to that a sign of quality time.

Anyway, my email contained a link to a site called Classic Firearms. Yesterday, I received this reply:

Bro',

Roger on the quality time! A guy showed up at the gun club with a tokerev. I had never shot one. Ballistically it is equal to a .357! Very well made, but a ver narrow frame. deadly accurate, and there are gads of surplus comm ammo available. I was impressed. Who knew. If that's all I had,I would not be sad.

Wow! This came from a man I consider the consummate pistolero -- and one who disdains weapons design ed/made under Communist regimes, to boot.

I've never owned one, never shot one. I don't have any financial interest in your buying one. But if my barber says they're that good, then I'd say getting one for under 300 bucks is a real bargain.
