The Injustice of Fighting Fair, 3

Continued from "The Injustice of Fighting Fair, 2"

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. (Proverbs 10:23)

The bottom line is that when anyone takes advantage of you, it's because he has you at a disadvantage. The inherent nature of the situation is unfair.

But n the aggressor's mind, anything you do to even the odds is unfair. He wants you to fight fairly (i.e., on his terms).

What about the accusation of fighting like a girl -- stomping on feet, kicking shins, clawing at eyes, slapping, etc? Well, let's look at it from a different perspective: World War II combatives.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words let's look at some illustrations from W.E. Fairbairn's Get Tough:

Kick to Shin Followed by Foot Stomp

Stomping on Foot

Clawing Eyes

I have written previously on the effective use of the combat slap, and I hope to reprise that topic soon.

Conclusion? You should fight like a girl because girls fight like World War II commandos. I wish I'd been able to wrap my head around this simple fact when I was twelve.

  1. Bullies rock, don't they?

I had the same problem in high school. Most of them were bigger than me, and one of them was a lesbian who acted like a guy. I didn't stand a chance against her. Luckily the teacher did a pretty good job of protecting me from them when he was around. Once, he made them run laps when he heard them saying cuss words and they were mad at ME like it was MY fault.

    Ugh.

  2. Sarah, thanks for posting your experience. I'd be interested to know if your experience has led you to pursue any aspect of self defense. Martial Arts? Firearms? Awareness and Avoidance Techniques?

As always, I'm really encouraged when a reader takes the time and effort to comment.

    1. My brother tried to teach me a few boxing techniques with our punching bag at home. He isn't a qualified instructor, so I ended up bruising my hand pretty badly once. Luckily I never really had to actually fight them, because I definitely would have lost and all that would have happened was them and ME getting suspended for fighting.

  3. I like Jim Wagner's belief that the "no-tolerance" policy schools have for fighting should be abolished.

Then again, public schools should be abolished in and of themselves.
