From the Barber's Chair: CCW or HMO?

My barber is a very inspirational guy. I received the following email from him:

So, I go to my doctor's office today . . .

The receptionist asked for my insurance card. Reaching into my wallet,I handed her the card. "Sir,this is a CCW permit." (the ones in this state are the same size, and color as my HMO card.) I was embarrassed, and apologized. When I was done with the appointment,I apologized again, and the receptionist told me, "My whole family carries; your permit was not a shock."

That kinda' made my day. I really need to start wearing my reading glasses more . . .

How to Stop Mass Killings

My barber sent me the link to the video below. It provides a prime example of how to stop armed orcs from robbing, raping and killing.

Notice the difference in how the orcs enter the establishment -- armed, confident, in control -- and how they leave.

(The video may contain some language issues for some families, so minors please have a parent preview this before you watch.)

Am I Paranoid?

Then said He unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." (Luke 22:36)

I've read reports about the increase in violent/deadly home invasions, and I keep a firearm on my person or within reach when I'm inside my home or in the yard. Does this make me paranoid?

If you've heard about pedestrians struck by motor vehicles, so you look both ways before crossing the street, does that make you paranoid?

If you put poisonous chemicals out of the reach of your children, does that make you paranoid?

If you have insurance against sickness and injury, fire, flood and tornado, does that make you paranoid?

If you cook meat so that you don't get food poisoning, does that make you paranoid?

If you take rational precautions against any other potential threat, society at large sees you as responsible rather than paranoid. The only exception? When you arm yourself against potential violence.

The real question: Who is being irrational, here?

Act or Lose Right to Own a Shotgun

I read an article this morning that reports a new proposed regulation by ATF. They want to ban the importation of auto-loading shotguns that have a magazine capacity greater than five.

There are a lot of things wrong with this proposed ban. The rationale is a biggie.

ATF claims that the shotguns need to be banned because they are military. This, of course, flies in the face of the intent of the Second Amendment, which guarantees the citizen militia's right to keep (own) and bear (carry) arms.

The next biggest problem is that banning importation is a step toward a total ban on these weapons. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Here is the email where you can express your opposition to this evil new rule:

Armed Citizens vs. Crime

. . .  he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. (Jesus of Nazareth, Luke 22:36)

Although it's dated, I'm sure the following quote reflects present realities, as well:

Law-abiding citizens in America used guns in self-defense 2.5 million times in 1993 (about 6,825 times per day), and actually shot and killed two and a half times as many criminals as police did (1,527 to 606). These self-defense shootings resulted in less than one-fifth as many incidents as police where an innocent person was mistakenly identified as a criminal (2 percent versus 11 percent). (Prof. Larry Bell as quoted by Pat 'Buchanan here)

As gun ownership increases, crime decreases. The gun control freaks just can't seem to figure out why.

To quote the theme from the old Dragnet show, "Dumb da dumb dumb . . . dumb da dumb dumb . . . DUMB!"

The Right to Life: A Simple Gift

The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

This morning I received word that my aunt had died during the night, and later I heard that an esteemed brother in the faith had only hours left in his earthly house of clay. My mood is one of somber rejoicing that both these Christians have completed their days here and now have the prospect of basking in the camaraderie of the saints before the face of God.

The Lord alone took their lives, as He took my wife's mother just a few weeks ago. That is His prerogative -- solely His prerogative.

When it comes to the rest of us, He has laid down the commandment, "Thou shalt not murder." The right to life comes from God, so He has circumscribed it with His Law.

Implicit in that Law we see the right to defend our lives against those who would take away the life which God has bestowed. The American tradition has codified that right in something we call the Second Amendment.

Some years ago, I wrote a little verse about the right to bear arms and to defend one's home. I wrote it to the melody of the old Shaker hymn, "Simple Gifts".

My version of the words follow. If you're not familiar with the melody or the original words, you can hear a great rendition by Yo Yo Ma and Alison Krauss by CLICKING HERE.

Tis the gift to be deeded; tis the gift to own land.
Tis the gift to greet strangers with a firearm in your hand.
And when we shall all wear our 'arms in plain sight,
We shall find that society has turned out polite.

Changes in Bumper Sticker Wisdom

40 years ago, you would see the bumper sticker:

WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS

Today, I saw:

WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS AND GOVERNMENTS WILL HAVE GUNS

Isn't it sad that my first thought was that the statement was redundant?

S.C. Sheriff Calls on Citizens to Arm Themselves & Stop Criminals

In Spartanburg, S.C. on Sunday afternoon, a felon with multiple convictions sexually assaulted a woman in a Milliken Park. Sheriff's deputies apprehended the suspect, and Sheriff Chuck Wright held a press conference, the likes of which I doubt any of you has heard before.

Sheriff Wright told reporters that the justice system is not working and he several times urged citizens to get concealed weapons permits. He made it plain that MACE is not enough; you need a gun to make sure you stop a criminal.

This is great stuff that every red-blooded Christian Martialist needs to see and hear. I don't know much about Sheriff Wright, but from what I've seen in this news conference, I think I'd like the guy.

The video below contains just a snippet of the full conference, which is over 12 minutes long. To go to a site where you can see the whole, unedited conference, CLICK HERE.

Anti-Gun Mentality

If you look at the cartoon below and terms like "irrational", "insane", "delusional" or "withdrawn from reality" come to mind, then congratulations. You have discovered the deeply-rooted motive force behind the anti-gun movement:

They're all nuts.

My suspicion is that the reason they are mentally broken is that they are also morally broken. But that's a topic for another post -- or a series of posts.
Thanks to Merrianna for the link to this cartoon.

ATF's "Fast & Furious" -- Multiple Objectives?

Re: RKBA, The Conflict

First, the Feds over at Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) wanted us to believe that allowing the shipment of guns into Mexico was part of a sting operation. Then, they wanted us to believe it was a good plan gone awry -- a mistake.

According to some investigative reporters, the ATF operation known as "Fast & Furious" sprang from much more sinister motives.

  1. To create a climate of support for more restrictions on Americans' Second Amendment rights;
  2. To funnel guns to the Sinaloa drug cartel, which supports Mexico's President Calderon;
  3. To turn a blind eye to cocaine shipped into the U.S. by the Sinaloa cartel (see here);
  4. To help eliminate the Sinaloa cartel's competitors, who oppose Calderon.
This excerpt of  a report from "The Truth about Guns" details the rationale of the operation:

The gunblogosphere’s explanation: the Department of Justice (the ATF’s boss) created Operation Fast and Furious to increase the American electorate’s support for the ATF’s work. They were seeking to garner support for ATF-sponsored anti-Second Amendment regulations and enforcement.
Mexican law enforcement officials (such as they are) would eTrace captured American gun store guns at Mexican “crime scenes” (a.k.a., intra-cartel carnage and anti-civilian rape, torture and murder). The ATF would use the stats on this “Iron River” to score Congressional funding and bolster new regs. ”Why waste a good crisis” became “why not make a good crisis and exploit it?”
Operation Fast and Furious’ genesis was a lot less complicated than that. The CIA convinced the ATF to change Project Gunrunner’s rules of engagement to supply our allies south of the border with firearms.
Yes allies. To understand Fast and Furious, it pays to remember that there are Mexican drug cartels and there are Mexican drug cartels. The U.S. isn’t interested in combatting Mexican drug cartels in general. They’re focused on the Mexican government’s war against Los Zetas. That’s the paramilitary cartel that has the motive, means and opportunity to overthrow the government of Felipe Calderon.
Operation Fast and Furious was predicated on a simple strategy: Sinaloas good, Los Zetas bad. That’s the way it was. That’s the way it is. Whenever you see a press report on a “victory” in the so-called “War on Drugs” that involves a Mexican cartel, it’s always Los Zetas who get nailed, or one of their allies (e.g. the Gulf Cartel).
Here's an interview with Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America. It reveals the frontal assault on Americans' 2nd Amendment rights.
